Winter sports events in Ruhpolding
At the start of January, the famous Biathlon World Cup takes place in Ruhpolding in the Chiemgau arena. Book your Biathlon tickets early (ticket sales start in August) and be there in person when the star athletes compete for victory. For the ski enthusiasts, a special day event is also held in January: the Chiemgau Team Trophy provides a cross-country route from Inzell through Ruhpolding to Reit im Winkl. Here, groups, companies, clubs and friends gather to enjoy a common experience of nature without the hustle and bustle.
Spring and autumn: Osterdorf and Georgiritt
In the spring Easter time, Ruhpolding is transformed into a decorative Osterdorf [Easter Village]. A colorful Easter program offers events for the entire family, and local Easter eggs are distributed to younger visitors. At the Christian Easter services, every visitor to the village is welcome. On the first Sunday in September you can experience in Ruhpolding the traditional Georgiritt, whose religious background dates to the 16th century. Around 180 horses and their owners and 10 decorated floats parade through the town to St. Valentin, in order to receive divine blessing for the steeds. After this impressive horse parade, you can stroll through the local shops from about 11:00 am for a shopping Sunday.
Celebrations in Upper Bavaria: Ruhpolding festivities
During the “Fest der Berge” mountain festival, visitors can observe the specific features of Upper Bavarian culture firsthand in Ruhpolding. Every May, a multi-day program of mountain sports and cultural and culinary events is prepared. Take part in guided mountain tours or celebrate the traditional festival in the idyllic forest grounds of the Holzknechtmuseums. You can look forward to Bavarian tradition, great walks and cycling programs, culinary delights and tasty beer. In August, we invite you to our hearty Dorffest village fair at the Ruhpolding ice rink. Here, locals and guests gather to celebrate Bavarian traditional music with one, two, three… or four liters of beer. Then, at the cocktail bar or the wine arbor, the Gaudi village fest happily continues.
Peaceful end of the year: Bergweihnacht, Waldweihnacht and Rauhnachtsmarkt
Located 1,670 meters above sea level, there is a small Alpine Christmas market at the Rauschenberg mountain station. At the Ruhpoldinger Bergweihnacht, local handicrafts are offered at two Advent weekends. Enjoy a warm mulled wine and the view of the snow-covered mountains. The contemplative Nativity play, the Ruhpoldinger Waldweihnacht, is staged every 3 years in December with around 100 local actors on the grounds of the Holzknechtmuseum (ticket sales are available from August in the year of the event). If you spend a holiday with us between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, we encourage you to visit the annual Rauhnachtsmarkt in the Ruhpolding spa gardens. Stroll through the Magical Time of Rauhnächte among the crafts and farmer stalls and indulge in delicious Bosna sausages or Schmalzgebackenes [fritters].
